November is shaping up to be one of the biggest months ever; in the lead-up Andy Wells talks to Bioware about Mass Effect, the trailer for Jack Black's game Brutal Legend touches down and we review more Orange Box goodness with Portal.
(Hellgate) London calliing
|
Padding out Valve Software's The Orange Box alongside Half-Life 2, its two episodes and Team Fortress 2 is newcomer Portal. Adding a single new concept to the already feature-packed source engine, Valve has created an entirely new gameplay experience - with a sense of humour to boot. Joaby goes in one hole and out the other, repeatedly, in this in-depth review.
Flagship Studios this week announced that the hotly anticipated Hellgate: London has at long last completed development, looking to hit its Aussie shipping date of November 1st. Accompanying the announcement was the surprise word that a playable singleplayer demo would be released shortly, which you can now download locally from GameArena files.

Hard driving: NFS demo
|
Our writers weren't the only one's who got to quiz Bioware on Mass Effect this week. Andy Wells was on location for BigPond GameArena, getting some screen time with Bioware's Community Coordinator Chris Priestly and a chance to ask the questions supplied by GameArena forum members. Check it.
A playable demo for Need for Speed Pro Street is now available for download from the Xbox Live Marketplace, offering Xbox 360 owners the first chance to sample the latest addition to EA's long running arcade racing series. The 655MB download features two gameplay modes: "Grip Racing" and "Speed Challenge" with the option to drive either the BMW M3 E92 or the new Nissan GT-R Proto.

Korn: crazed for Haze
|
Ubisoft sends word that they have contracted the multi-platinum rock band Korn to record a new track titled "Haze", reportedly inspired by the upcoming video game from Free Radical Design.
"This partnership with Korn is original in the video game industry in that the song will be released and promoted as a full-fledged single, and not just as a download with the video game."
Expect this one to drop on online music purchase sites at around the same time Haze hits shelves on PlayStation 3.
Sierra Entertainment has officially announced Brutal Legend, a new twisted action title from the mind of Psychonauts creator Tim Schafer and his company Double-Fine Productions. The game is "The chronicle of Eddie Riggs, a roadie of a virtuous metal band, pulled back in time to learn his true purpose. Offered the wealth and knowledge of an ancient kingdom in exchange for assembling a legion of his own design, the roadie commands a barbaric mob of demons, dragsters, amp stacks, leather and chrome." Brutal Legend is due on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 some time in 2008 but for now, check out the teaser trailer - complete with an apt Dio-era Black Sabbath soundtrack.

Wiimotely diverting
|
Rockstar Games has sent along a new trailer promoting the newly released Wii version of their well received Table Tennis title. It's scant on actual gameplay footage, but it would be pretty fun to play the game like that. Take a look here in our video library.
