Duke Nukem 3D will be available on the Xbox Live Arcade "soon" according to the 3D Realms site.
The site says the remake of the classic shooter "passed final certification with Microsoft on Friday the 15th of August (on our first try, no less)". However the team behind the Duke are unable to confirm a release date or points cost yet, as they don't know themselves. The achievements for the Xbox Live Arcade title have also been leaked onto the net, and they include tipping a stripper and stepping in dung. Truly a Duke Nukem 3D experience. Do you think you'll pick up Duke 3D on the XBLA? Or are you still rocking your original PC Duke3d with the jacked up HD textures? The final piece of information on the Heavy update is in - the big guy is getting a Sandvich.
The edible device replaces the shotgun in our ruski friend's high-powered arsenal. The snack replacement is in unlimited supply, and allows the mammoth mini-gunner to heal 120 damage where ever he is. He's totally vulnerable for the four seconds it takes for him to devour his meal though, so you'll needs to choose his snack times carefully. ![]() The last piece of the puzzle also brought us another "Meet the Team" video - Meet the Sandvich. You can check it out in our videos library now - or you can download it from our files library. Meanwhile, let's recap on the Heavy update. It kicked off last week with a community created map, cp_steel. Meanwhile, the Scooby gang attempted to decipher the upcoming achievement requirements in the comments section. Before the weekend we received information on The K.G.B. and a new payload map, Badwater Basin. After the weekend we looked at Natascha - the Heavy's new gun - and Valve released information on an Arena mode bringing with it two new maps and three revised old ones. When they released the update Valve said,
Would you say it's a fair assumption? With three weapons updates and four new maps we think this update was heavy indeed. Restart Steam to start the update, and we'll see you at the sandvich bar.
Team Fortress 2 "Meet the Sandvich" TrailerPosted: 20 Aug 08 | 276 views | 60 downloads | 10.1MBFuturemark, the company renowned for their work with benchmarking programs 3DMark and PCMark announced their first game, Shattered Horizon, ahead of the Leipzig Games Conference.
The game is set in the aftermath of a moon mining accident which "throws billions of tons of rocky debris into near-Earth space". Teams of players will fight it out in zero gravity "surrounded by the remains of orbital infrastructure and the millions of asteroids now circling Earth". The game is apparently a multiplayer shooter centring around a struggle for supplies after a catastrophic nuclear explosion on the moon. Mikael Bowellan, Lead Artist for Shattered Horizon said,
From the press release,
Watch the teaser trailer and tell us - do you think the team behind 3DMark and PCMark can make a game worth playing? Or will it become an interactive benchmark - a multiplayer framerate reader?
Shattered Horizon GC 2008 Debut TrailerPosted: 20 Aug 08 | 106 views | 7 downloads | 39.2MBThe band behind the gruelling "Through the Fire and Flames" on Guitar Hero 3 are going to debut their latest single via the same game in an upcoming downloadable content song pack.
The song "Heroes of Our Time" from their incoming Ultra Beatdown album will accompany "Revolution Deathsquad” and “Operation Ground and Pound" from the album Inhuman Rampage on the XBLM and PSN from August 21. This isn't the first time the music and games industries have teamed up - earlier this year Mötley Crüe launched the title track of their latest album via Rock Band ahead of the official release, and later this year we'll see Metallica release Death Magnetic on Guitar Hero 3 alongside the track release. Are you a fan of Dragonforce outside of their monumental Guitar Hero 3 effort? Are you looking forward to this release because you like the music or because you love the challenge? Good news for aspiring rockers - according to Michael Shorrock, the Director for Public Relations at SCEA, Sony has worked closely with Activision, Konami and Harmonix to make sure everybody's music peripherals will work with everybody else's music peripherals on the PlayStation 3.
This is big news after it was revealed that Guitar Hero peripherals would not work on Rock Band PS3, which caused some issues late last year. According to the statement issued on the PlayStation Blog,
Assuming the games all make their way over to Australia you can be certain that GameArena will work out which peripherals are the best bang for your buck. This kind of thing is great because it means we can make our plastic instrument game decisions based on the songs, not based on which one will cause the least clutter in the lounge room. Richie and Benny go for broke this episode, booting things off with the customary 90 seconds of knowledge and some very subtle product placement. Next up Richie chats with Alice Spooner and James Smith from Hadoken!, a band Wikipedia describes as "grindie".
After quizzing the band on their Street Fighter knowledge we move on and the guys take a look at Spore, EA and Will Wright's incoming life simulator. They're not the only one's looking forward to Spore, that's for sure. They also get a sneak peek at Hellboy 2 before wrapping things up with a trailer for Street Fighter IV. Grab the latest episode now and then answer the GameArena Street Fighter quiz - what did Ken say to Ryu when Ryu asked if he could have some ice cream?
The Benny and Richie Show - Episode 16Posted: 19 Aug 08 | 298 views | 33 downloads | 445.9MBMondayish was an accurate enough time-frame for Valve's latest news on the Heavy Update due out early tomorrow - the newest addition is "Arena mode".
This is probably not a knee-jerk reaction to finding out WoW has achievements as our title suggests, but it's something to think about. The Arena mode is focused on making the game more competitive as the new announcement details,
The new mode is bringing with it two brand new maps - Lumberyard and Ravine - as well as remaking three maps to make them more suitable for Arena. Beyond Arena mode, late last week we also had news of Natascha, the second weapon update detailed for the Heavy. He can't speed up, but he can slow you down The details are all there - Natascha slows down enemies while doing 25% less damage - definitely a team oriented weapon designed to give your team mates more time to put Rockets on your enemy. You can scope out more details on the Heavy update in our previous coverage, and further details of Arena Mode on the Heavy Update site. What do you think the shotgun upgrade will be? GSC GameWorld issued a press release earlier saying S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky is gold and scheduled for worldwide release on September 5.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky is a prequel to last year's annoyingly named and thoroughly addictive S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadows of Chernobyl, which put you near ground zero in an alternate reality of anomalies and mutant dogs. It's shaping up to be a good end of year for PC based first person shooters - we've got Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky all scheduled for release before the year ends. ActiBlizz boss sinks the slipper into Warner Bros

Bobby Kotick, head honcho of Activision Blizzard is a busy man these days. When he's not giving a touch up to EA about them being "soulless" (note: Kotick is ex-EA), he's slashing costs and studios, having most recently made public the companies intent to cull certain games and developers. Cue: Activision Blizzard properties Radical Entertainment and High Moon Studios slashing up to 50% of their workforce.
Maybe you'd think BK was ready to slow his roll now, nuh-uh. This time it's those pansies at Warner Bros who have raised his ire by suggesting they want a bigger slice of the pie from franchises like Guitar Hero as in the words of Billy Joel, they write the songs. Well, not exactly, but they own the people who do. Far be it from us to fly the flag for the music industry. After all, these are the people who brought us Hilary Rosen and the jackbooted thuggery aesthetic of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The RIAA's policies in turn formed the inspiration for taking down music sharing grannies the world over. But even we blinked a bit at the bluntness of the Bobmeister's response in the Financial Times:
How times have changed - no more of this poor cousin approach from the look of it. Early days yet, but we smell the scent of litigation in the not-too-distant future as music gaming grows and margins remain the same. Can you say "negotiated settlement"?
