Eat fresh - the Heavy finds a sandvich artist.

The final piece of information on the Heavy update is in - the big guy is getting a Sandvich.

The edible device replaces the shotgun in our ruski friend's high-powered arsenal. The snack replacement is in unlimited supply, and allows the mammoth mini-gunner to heal 120 damage where ever he is. He's totally vulnerable for the four seconds it takes for him to devour his meal though, so you'll needs to choose his snack times carefully.

The last piece of the puzzle also brought us another "Meet the Team" video - Meet the Sandvich. You can check it out in our videos library now - or you can download it from our files library.

Meanwhile, let's recap on the Heavy update. It kicked off last week with a community created map, cp_steel. Meanwhile, the Scooby gang attempted to decipher the upcoming achievement requirements in the comments section.

Before the weekend we received information on The K.G.B. and a new payload map, Badwater Basin.

After the weekend we looked at Natascha - the Heavy's new gun - and Valve released information on an Arena mode bringing with it two new maps and three revised old ones.

When they released the update Valve said,

We thought the Pyro pack was the biggest we'd be doing for a while, due to the large changes to the Pyro, but the Heavy update has turned out to be even bigger.

Would you say it's a fair assumption? With three weapons updates and four new maps we think this update was heavy indeed. Restart Steam to start the update, and we'll see you at the sandvich bar.

Back to basins for TF2

The Heavy class in Team Fortress 2 is the next to get enhanced, and the week of update updates is at the mid-way point now.

Valve kicked things off with a community created map, and if you check out the comments you can see our Dean Venture-esque community deciphering the 35 achievements Valve released details on yesterday.

A new weapon was revealed yesterday as well, The K.G.B., or The Killing Gloves of Boxing. The K.G.B. give five seconds of critical hits if you get a kill with them - however they swing slower, and you have to get your heavy ass within melee range as a balancing factor.

Super Punch Out!

Today Valve has released details of another new map - Badwater Basin. Another Payload map, Badwater has "more open spaces and less chokepoints than Gold Rush", and a different tactical approach,
Unlike Gold Rush, where the track is split into three separate stages, Badwater Basin uses a single large stage with several checkpoints. As a result, the Blu team is highly encouraged to push the cart hard after beating their way through the Red defensive line.

Red is dead.

So, with only three updates left, what do you think we'll see over the weekend? Will Valve hold on to the next Meet the Team trailer until next week and give us the Sasha replacement earlier or save the big gun until last?

A Heavy update for Team Fortress 2 next week

The Heavy is the next class to get an update in the ever popular shooter Team Fortress 2. Over the coming week Valve are trickling out details of the incoming update, culminating in the update's full release next Tuesday (or maybe Wednesday for us Australians).

Today's droplet of information is the revealing of the community created map cp_steel from James "Fishbus" Manson, and you can keep on top of the rest of the updates by heading to the Heavy Update site.

As per the previous updates, the impending update also means another Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend starting around 1:00 AM Saturday the 23rd for Aussies.

What do you think the weapon updates will be? Do you think they'll have to rename Sasha? And how will Team Fortress 2 go with servers full of Heavys?

TF2 update full of goodies for Pyro maniacs

The Team Fortress 2 Pyro update is out today, and ahead of its release Valve has provided the world with details on the additions the latest update will bring.

Following the Medic upgrade approximately a month and a half ago, this update also adds three new weapons - this time for the Pyro. Two new user-created maps are also joining the update as well as 35 new achievements, a new upgrade for Pyro players and the Meet the Sniper trailer.

If you haven't experienced Team Fortress 2 yet Valve are celebrating their Pyro update with another TF2 Free Weekend - which means you can play the full game without paying all weekend. Until then however you can scope out our review to get an idea on how the game works.

All Pyros will have a secondary attack on their flamethrowers - a blast of compressed air upon hitting your secondary fire key. According to Valve this will allow Pyros to "kill enemy soldiers with their own rockets, or to separate enemy Medics from their healing targets".

The weapon unlocks are,

The first Pyro unlockable is The Flare Gun, which replaces the shotgun. It allows the Pyro to ignite an enemy at long range, but does require careful aim on their part. It’s particularly useful for causing havoc on Snipers and Engineers who want to keep their distance.

The second Pyro unlockable is The Backburner. This flamethrower is built for the Pyro who likes to ambush their opponents. It removes the compression blast capability, instead guaranteeing critical hits whenever it’s used on an opponent from behind. To aid in survivability, it grants the Pyro an extra fifty health.

The third Pyro unlockable is The Axtinguisher. This mighty axe guarantees critical hits on any enemy that’s currently on fire, although it’s significantly weaker against enemies who aren’t. A great combination with the The Flare Gun, or with another Pyro buddy riding alongside doing the igniting.

Head to the announcement page for full details on the new maps and the achievement conditions. Do you think any of these unlockable weapons are worthwhile? Are Pyros overpowered now? Will there ever be a class as awesome as the Heavy?

Valve ubers Team Fortress 2

Valve updated Team Fortress 2 today, a new map, a flood of tweaks and 36 new achievements for medics. To update your game you need to restart your Steam client and let it do its thing. If you don't own Team Fortress 2 there's good news for you as well - Valve are holding what they're calling a "TF2 Free Weekend". It's not a weekend free of Team Fortress 2, it means that this weekend you can play Team Fortress 2 without paying for it!

The new map, Gold Rush, also has a new gameplay type called Payload. Valve explain,

Gold Rush is an entirely new level featuring a new gameplay style called Payload. The level is split into three separate areas with intermediate capture zones inside of each major chapter. The teams are split between offense (Blu) and defense (Red) similar to Dustbowl. The goal for the Blu team is to push the bomb payload through the level until it reaches the next capture point, eventually destroying all three of Red's major bases. Blu pushes the cart through the level by standing near it, with the cart moving faster when more people are close by. If no one has pushed the cart forward after 30 seconds, the cart will begin to move backward until it is pushed forward again.

As well as 36 new achievements for budding doctors to aspire towards, Valve has added 3 new Medic weapons - earned by completing achievements. The first is The Blutsaugher, which steals health from any opponent it hits. Second is The Kritzkrieg, a medic gun that instead of giving invulnerability when it Ubers instead makes the charged player fire non-stop critical attacks. Finally, The Ubersaw converts any damage done directly into Ubercharge. If you haven’t played TF2, “Ubercharge” and “Ubering” are powerups medics can do with their healing weapon to boost team mates.

For those who need to know all the changes check out the changelog - direct from Valve,
