Dev diaries are so cool. You get part trailer, part game run-down and at the end of it you come away with more information and more eye-candy than when you started.
This first Prince of Persia Dev Diary delivers on exactly that - there's some cool info on the enemies and our Persian prince's skillset, more awesome visuals than what you probably saw in the E3 trailer and an overview of the game's story. It's like a four and a half minute tv show, and we can't wait for the next episode. Check it out in our videos library now and tell us what you think.
Prince of Persia Dev Diary #1 TrailerPosted: 28 Aug 08 | 156 views | 16 downloads | 279MBEA has released a patch for the Spore Creature Creator only a week before the full game launches.
The patch fixes a few small issues contained within the SCC and one big one - the ability to drag and drop creatures between Spore and the Spore Creature Creator. You can grab the patches from our files library - there's one patch for the Full version of the game and one for the Trial version as well. This one is PC only - Mac creature creators will have to wait a little longer for the patch. Check below for the patch notes.
Are you starting to get pumped for Spore again? We're on the final stretch now, but the first week of September is going to be pretty big for games releases - S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky (PC), Mercenaries 2 (PC, PS3 and Xbox 360) and Square Enix's Infinite Undiscovery (Xbox 360) are all launching next week. H.A.W.X will have real life locations, accurately mapped to an incredible degree thanks to a partnership between Ubisoft and GeoEye, "a premier provider of satellite, aerial and geospatial information" and their Earth-imaging satellite IKONOS.
Ubisoft plans to use the satellite imaging to create an ultra-realistic environment for H.A.W.X as the game takes players across 16 locations internationally. They've also worked with the U.S. Geological Survey and the Center for Earth Resources Observations and Science (USGS/EROS) to help them use the satellite images as accurately as possible. Mark Brender, VP of corporate communications and marketing at GeoEye said,
![]() A GeoEye Image of the National Stadium in Beijing - better reception than I had of the games. Maybe this new approach to realism will bring about a whole new "uncanny valley" - or maybe it won't matter when you whiz past the entire photo-realistic environment at Mach 3. There's a new piece up on Gaming Liberty, it's the start of a fortnightly event where Greg Tanahill will help give us some insight into how a politician looks at games.
Every two weeks we'll take your questions that you can ask in the comments (or PM me if you're shy) and Greg will do his best to answer them as a gamer and a politician. It seems everyone was shy last week, as we didn't get any questions at all - fortunately we had our own question we were interested in. Head to our first Questions answered now to find out our question and Greg's answer and ask him one of your own! Next week we'll have another great article from Greg, plus so much more in the pipeline, so keep focused on Gaming Liberty! The Leipzig Games Convention 08 is the gift that keeps giving. In the good way. Our guys in Germany got us even more footage out of GC08 and it's just hit our video library in all its glory.
Kicking things off we have a look at the EA press conference where the mega-publisher announced a Tennis game and talked to someone who sounds like an Australian(!) about FIFA 09 before scoping out the rest of the massive line-up on offer. You can check that one out straight from our videos library. Harry Potter fans are a crazy bunch, and the guys in Germany got face time with the ginger nut brothers of Ronald Weasley, Oliver and James Phelps, to scope out the upcoming Harry Potter game. The guys are real life twins, but they appear to be fake red heads. The game actually looks pretty fun on the Wii, especially with the wand battles. If you're a bit of a Hogwarts nut scope the video now! Harry Potter fan or not, what do you think of the young wizard's incoming game? And what do you think of EA's plans for the coming year?
BigPond GameArena GC 2008 HP Twins FeaturePosted: 26 Aug 08 | 1331 views | 20 downloads | 269.5MBSo what if England beat Australia in the medal count. Who cares if we lost our last Rugby Union match to them. We're still tougher than them.
How so? Well - apart from the Rugby League which would be an Australian sport if New Zealand would stop resisting and become one of us - we saw the Classification Board (the hip new name for the Office of Film and Literature Classification) gave Dead Space an MA15+ rating. What does this prove? It seems the BBFC (the British equivalent of the Classification Board) classified the game with an 18 rating. Apparently British youngsters are a bit too delicate for "strong bloody violence and horror", while Australian youngster's are simply too impressionable to deal with real life drugs in their fake video games. The system works again! Jagged Alliance is coming to the Nintendo DS, a press release from publishers Empire Interactive announced today.
The title is in development by Strategy First and Cypron Studios, and will be available on Nintendo's portable handheld in 2009. There are few details on whether this will be an original story, though Strategy First has previously announced plans to bring Jagged Alliance 2 and its expansion packs to the DS. James Spice, VP of Marketing for Empire Interactive said,
The first Jagged Alliance game released in 1994, combining turn-based strategy with RPG elements to give players a strong non-linear game. It was followed in 1999 by Jagged Alliance 2, building on the first title's strong background even further. The DS seems like a good fit for these sorts of games - the portable format lends itself to the turn-based style of play as it lets you pause between actions. Is Jagged Alliance DS your kind of game? AGD Interactive released Quest for Glory II VGA earlier this week. It's a freeware remake of the Sierra RPG/Adventure game Quest for Glory II.
The game has been in development for about eight years and apart from the graphics the team at AGD also eliminated the text input system for movement and dialog - almost everything is point-and-click driven now. You can grab it from the AGD Interactive website - it weighs in at about 85MB but it's a worthwhile grab if you want some old school adventure. Have you already grabbed Quest for Glory II VGA? What do you think? In a recent interview the Executive Producer on Battlefield Heroes Ben Cousins (no, not the AFL player) stated that Battlefield Heroes is not delayed, as EA CEO John Riccitiello mistakenly announced earlier this year, because the game is already out.
When the interview on site GamesIndustry.biz broached the subject of the game's release date Cousins said,
So what needs to change between a closed beta and a final release - especially if a game is free? After all, you're still paying the same amount, right? And do you think Riccitiello's new strategy for EA - more development independence and less corporate nannying - is giving developers their stones back? Are you in the restricted release of Battlefield Heroes? The full update from Sony's press event in Leipzig last week is available in our video library now - you should watch it! We've got more of these videos headed your way, so stay tuned.
From message pad add-ons to MMO content, everything Sony had to say is packaged in one excellent video for you to enjoy - watch it now and give us the scoop... What was your favourite tidbit of information from Sony in the update?
